Commemorating The Kudatuli Tragedy, Megawati Wants A Monument At The PDIP DPP Office
JAKARTA - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri wants a monument to the 27 July Coup, also known as Kudatuli, to be built at the PDIP DPP office. This development is considered necessary to commemorate the victims in the bloody incident 25 years ago.
"This morning I reported to Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri about the flower-laying event. She also reminded that it is important for us here to build a monument on July 27," said PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto, Tuesday, July 27.
This was conveyed when he led the flower sowing activity with party officials. A number of PDIP elites were present, the Deputy Secretary General of PDIP Sadarestuwati, PDIP DPP Chairperson Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Eriko Sotarduga, and Ribka Tjiptaning.
In addition, a number of representatives of the families of the victims of the Kudatuli incident were also present, who are members of the 124 Harmony Communication Forum (FKK).
According to Hasto, the construction of the monument needs to be done so that the human rights violations in the tragedy will be remembered. Moreover, the Kudatuli incident is proof of the ugly face of the New Order dictatorship under Suharto's leadership, which controlled democracy.
He also said the party's struggle was not over yet to demand legal truth in the incident.
"Our struggle is not over yet, including in demanding the legal truth of the incident," said Hasto.

PDIP will seek advice from various parties to build the monument.
"The spirit is at the same time how the monument can show a spirit of democracy from the people, by the people, for the people who cannot be silenced by authoritarian rule," said Hasto.
"And with the monument, we also remind that this should not happen again," he concluded.
