Jokowi: Students From The Same Department Do Not Have To Work In The Same Profession
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo said there would be no problem if students after graduating did not take up professions in accordance with what was learned in college.
This was conveyed by Jokowi in a virtual conference of the Indonesian Chancellor's Forum which was attended by rectors and leaders of universities throughout Indonesia.
"Students in the same major do not necessarily have to learn about the same thing. Students in the same major do not mean that they will have to work in the same profession," Jokowi said in a video uploaded to the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube, Tuesday, July 27.
According to Jokowi, every student has their own talents and these talents must be explored, facilitated and developed. Every higher education institution is asked to provide opportunities for students to develop their talents.
Jokowi asked higher education institutions to work for humanity and the progress of the nation, solving social problems with science and technology, with continuous innovation.
"Students must be facilitated to be able to compete in an increasingly open and globalized job market, must be able to become industrialists who create jobs, be able to improve their social status, make themselves move up in class and make Indonesian MSMEs also take classes together," said Jokowi
Jokowi is aware that the target he imposes on this university is quite heavy. However, it will be easier if the campus is willing to do it in a new way, namely in the Merdeka Learning program.
According to Jokowi, Freedom of Learning is one of the important instruments. Students can learn from anyone and anywhere that is considered important to prepare for their future and the future of the nation.
"That is the essence of the Independent and Independent Campus learning program," he said.
