Xiaomi Overtakes Apple As The World's Number Two Largest Mobile Phone Company
JAKARTA - Xiaomi reportedly overtook Apple's position as the second-largest mobile phone company in the world in the second quarter (Q2) of this year. Not only that, but the giant company from China also recorded an 83 percent jump in shipments.
According to a Canalys Research report quoted from Gizmochina, Sunday, July 18. This is the first time that Xiaomi has penetrated the top two positions globally in terms of smartphone shipments. Previously, the position was dominated by Samsung and Apple.
However, Huawei also had time to reach the second position, which caused Apple to lose their position. But it wasn't long before Huawei began to face sanctions by the United States (US) and was blacklisted.
Huawei has finally pulled out of the high-end premium phone market. Then Xiaomi immediately filled the gap by launching superior specifications at competitive prices.
While Samsung remains the leading mobile phone brand globally with a 19 percent share in the second quarter of this year. Then Xiaomi managed to increase its market share to 17 percent in the second quarter of 2021.
Apple is third with a 14 percent market share in terms of mobile phone shipments. OPPO and Vivo are in fourth and fifth positions with a market share of 10 percent each.

“The average selling price of Xiaomi is around 40 percent and 75 percent cheaper respectively when compared to Samsung and Apple. So, the company managed to increase sales for high-end devices, such as the Mi 11 Ultra", said Canalys Research Manager, Ben Stanton.
Furthermore, Xiaomi has also managed to increase shipments by more than 300 percent in Latin America, also 150 percent across Africa, and 50 percent in Western Europe.
Even so, it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi manages to maintain its position, like its competitors OPPO and Vivo which have the same goal of offering high-end phones at affordable prices.
Interestingly, Vivo and OPPO always have innovations compared to Xiaomi by spending many models for marketing purposes.
