Smells Of Gambling, Two Wimbledon Matches Investigated By International Tennis Integrity Agency

JAKARTA - The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said it was investigating two Wimbledon matches this month after bookies flagged "possibly unusual betting patterns".

"Two warnings were given to us during the Championship from the betting industry indicating a possible pattern of betting cannot," an ITIA spokesperson told Reuters.

"We cannot reveal further as both matches are currently being investigated."

ITIA said any warnings reported to the agency would be "recorded, assessed and acted upon as an indicator that something inappropriate may have occurred".

"It is important to note that the warning itself is not evidence of match-fixing. If analysis of the match alert shows corrupt activity, ITIA conducts a full and confidential investigation," ITIA added.

ITIA was founded last January by the tennis governing bodies (ATP, WTA, ITF and Grand Slam Council) as a completely independent body to safeguard the integrity of professional tennis worldwide.

This body was formerly known as the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) which investigates corruption and match fixing.

The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC) says this "sports integrity" is paramount at Wimbledon.

"We continue to invest in additional measures to support integrity operations on the pitch during the Championships," the AELTC said in a statement.
