Criminal Investigation Unit's Quick Steps In Taking Over Doctor Lois Owien's Case

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police carried out a quick response after taking over the case of Doctor Lois Owien regarding COVID-19 from the Metro Jaya Police. It didn't take long for Lois Owien to be named a suspect and arrested.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, said that the case was officially withdrawn to the Criminal Investigation Department shortly after Lois Owien was arrested on Sunday, July 11, at around 16.00 western Indonesia time.

"He was secured by Metro Jaya Police and handed over to Police Headquarters," Argo told reporters, Monday, July 12.

However, the reasons behind the withdrawal of the handling of the case were not explained. It's just that the handling feels very fast.

Because, as soon as the case was handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Police, Lois Owien was immediately arrested and named a suspect.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Commissioner General Agung Andrianto, said that Lois Owien was named as a suspect because investigators considered that the criminal element had been fulfilled.

"We have (determined the suspect)," said Commissioner-General Agus.

With the determination of the suspect, Lois Owien was immediately arrested. Agus gave the same reason. Detention is the authority of the investigator.

"The objective reason is according to the law and the investigator's subjective reason," he said.

Furthermore, in this case, the investigator applies the article related to the spread of false news as stated in Article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Transactions. Electronic and/or Article 14 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 1946 and/or Article 14 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 1946 and/or Article 14 paragraph (1) and Law Number 4 of 1984 and/or Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations.

"That's right, investigators applied the article," said Commissioner-General Agus.

For information, doctor Lois Owien made a controversial statement. She said the patients or people who died were not caused by the COVID-19 virus. Rather, because of excessive drug interactions.

In addition, Lois Owien also said that the drugs used for COVID-19 patients cause complications in the body.
