Doctor Lois Owien Becomes Suspect Of COVID-19 Hoax

JAKARTA - The National Police has named doctor Lois Owien as a suspect in the case of spreading false news or hoaxes. Lois Owien is detained in the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

"We have (determined the suspect)", said the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Officer, Komjen Agus Andrianto, to VOI, Monday, July 12.

In the case of the COVID-19 hoax, Dr. Lois Owien was accused of Article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions and/or Article 14 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 the Year 1946 and/or Article 14 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 1946 and/or Article 14 paragraph (1) and Law Number 4 of 1984 and/or Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations.

"That's right, investigators applied the article", said Komjen Agus.

Doctor Lois Owien was arrested by Metro Jaya Police on Sunday, July 11, at around 16.00 WIB. The arrest was the aftermath of his statement which said the patient or community who died were not caused by the COVID-19. Rather, because of excessive drug interactions.

In addition, Lois Owien said that the drugs used for COVID-19 patients cause complications in the body.
