JAKARTA - Members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Makassar Police, East Jakarta, investigated the discovery of a female baby in the Cipinang River, Makassar, on Sunday, July 11.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Makassar Sector Police, Iptu Mochamad Zen, said that the initial examination of the baby girl's body did not find any signs of abuse that resulted in death.
"There were no signs of violence. The body was found naked and the umbilical cord was cut off," said Mochamad Zen in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 12.
Mochamad Zen explained that the baby's body was first discovered by three UPK officers from the Jakarta Environmental Agency's Water Agency.
"While carrying garbage, the witness saw something like a doll, but when approached and held it, it was a baby's body," said Mochamad Zen.
The UPK officer for the Water Agency of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency immediately reported the finding of the baby girl's body to the Makassar Police.
Zen said the case of finding the baby's body is now being handled by the Makassar Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Meanwhile, the baby's body was then taken to the Forensic Installation of the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, East Jakarta for an autopsy.
"Now we are still waiting for the autopsy results in the form of Visum et Repertum from the forensic doctor team at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital," said Zen.
