Doctor Lois Owien Spreads Hoax 'COVID-19 Is Not A Virus' On Three Platforms
JAKARTA - The National Police said that doctor Lois Owien spread false news or hoaxes about COVID-19 on three social media platforms. In fact, the fake news was not only uploaded once.
"So it's not just one social media platform, but there are three social media platforms that have been carried out," said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Public Relations Division Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan to reporters, Monday, July 12.
However, Ramdhan did not specify the platform used by doctor Lois Owien to spread the fake news, it was noted that there were two social media that he used. First Instagram and Twitter.
In the uploads on the two social media platforms, Doctor Lois Owien said that COVID-19 was not the cause of people's deaths. It's just overdosing on drugs.
"The post is that the victims who have died from COVID-19 are not due to COVID-19, but are caused by interactions between drugs and the administration of six kinds of drugs," said Ramadhan.
Thus, Doctor Lois Owien's upload has caused a stir in the community. In fact, it is considered as an act of hindering government programs in overcoming disease outbreaks.
"Doctor L has spread false news and or broadcast news or false news on purpose which can cause trouble among the people and or hinder the implementation of the prevention of infectious disease outbreaks," said Ramadhan.
For information, Doctor Lois Owien was arrested by the Polda Metro Jaya on Sunday, July 11, at around 16.00 WIB. The arrest was the aftermath of his statement which said the patient or community who died were not caused by the COVID-19 virus. Rather, because of excessive drug interactions.
In addition, he also said that the drugs used for COVID-19 patients cause complications in the body.
Although arrested by the Polda Metro Jaya, the handling of the case of Doctor Lois Owien has been delegated to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.
