Update On COVID-19 As Of May 28: New Cases In Each Province Still Dynamic

JAKARTA - Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto (Yuri) said there were 687 positive confirmed cases as of Thursday, May 28 at 12.00 WIB. The total number of positive cases became 24,538 people.

Then, the number of cured cases surpassed the death cases. There were an additional 183 patients recovered, bringing the total to 6,240 patients. Meanwhile, 23 people died, bringing it to 1,496 patients.

"There are comorbidities that worsen the patient's condition, namely comorbidity, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and lung disease," Yuri said at a press conference at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Thursday, May 28.

Furthermore, the number of specimens examined per day has reached 11,495 times, a total of 289,906 patients have been examined. In detail, 286,570 specimens were examined using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and 3,336 specimens were examined using a molecular rapid test (TCM).

The number of specimens examined per day has reached the target set by President Joko Widodo. Some time before, Jokowi had targeted a massive COVID-19 test of up to 10 thousand tests per day.

Then, the patient data under surveillance (PDP) which is currently still being monitored reached 13,250 people. Meanwhile, people under monitoring (ODP) who are currently still being monitored reach 48,749.

The addition of cases for each region is still dynamic

Yuri explained, the addition of COVID-19 cases in each province still shows dynamics. Several provinces reported that they did not have any additional new cases, and there were even provinces where the number of cases continued to be high.

East Java Province, for example, is currently the region with the highest increase in cases per day, namely 171 cases. In the last few days, the number of cases has continued to increase. The cause is the impact of the Gowa tablig akbar congregation cluster, the Temboro Pesantren cluster and the Sampoerna cigarette factory cluster.

"East Java is currently the highest but actually yesterday's increase was 199 now to 171, meaning there is a decrease compared to yesterday," said Yuri.

The province with the second highest number of cases was South Kalimantan with the addition of 116 people. Third, DKI Jakarta with the addition of 105 COVID-19 cases.

"In Jakarta, it is dominated by our brothers who have just returned because they are working abroad and we have to screen them and this is quite a lot we get," he explained.

Then, there are eight provinces that report no new cases added today. The provinces are Bangka Belitung, DI Yogyakarta, Jambi, North Kalimantan, Lampung, Riau, West Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara.

Meanwhile, there are 3 provinces with the addition of only one case. The provinces are Aceh, West Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.

"We understand this condition because indeed the social dynamics in one province are not the same, there are some regions whose graphical images have started to decline, some are sloping, but some are increasing," said Yuri.

"Overall, these new cases are indeed an illustration that the transmission process is still occurring. This means that we really have to be more disciplined again to comply with all government recommendations," he added.
