COVID-19 In Indonesia Soars, The United States Donates 4 Million Doses Of Vaccines

JAKARTA – The spike in COVID-19 in Indonesia has received attention from the United States (US). The US government will donate 4 million doses of Moderna vaccine to Indonesia.

This information was disclosed by the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi. In an official statement, the US will send the Moderna vaccine.

"The US will donate four million doses of Moderna vaccine to Indonesia," the White House said on Saturday, July 3.

They also reported that they would send the vaccine as soon as possible via COVAX from WHO.

"This dose will be delivered via COVAX as soon as possible," as quoted by CNBC.

Sullivan said that the US administration led by President Joe Biden and Deputy Kamala Harris was committed to stopping the pandemic together with Indonesia and a number of other Southeast Asian countries.

"The importance of the Biden-Kamala administration in placing Indonesia and Southeast Asia as partners in ending the pandemic and we will continue to promise continued support and high-level engagement," Sullivan said.

Previously, in June, the US government announced that it would donate 500 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to countries around the world.

Although the pandemic has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, President Biden also revealed that his party already knows how to restore the situation. "We know the tragedy. We also know the path to recovery," he added.

He also stated that the vaccine donation was intended to strengthen the position of the United States in fighting the spread of the coronavirus in the world. Apart from the US, Russia, and China also have the same goal.
