Attorney General's Order: Strict Sanctions For Health Protocol Violators, Without Indiscriminate
JAKARTA - Attorney General, Sanitiar Burhanuddin, ordered the prosecutor's office to support the implementation of the Java-Bali Emergency Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM).
"Ensuring that every violator of the health protocol is subject to strict and indiscriminate sanctions and ensuring that the sanctions imposed can provide a deterrent effect to both the perpetrators and other members of the public", said the Attorney General's order in a press release received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 30.
The Attorney General issued an order for the prosecutor's office to take steps to follow up on the results of the Coordination Meeting chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment on Tuesday, June 29, which discussed the implementation of Emergency PPKM in regencies/cities throughout Java and Bali Provinces.
Heads of high prosecutors, heads of state prosecutors, and heads of branches of state prosecutors throughout Indonesia are asked to play an active role and take initiatives to ensure that the implementation of Emergency PPKM in Java and Bali goes well.

In addition, the chief prosecutors were also asked to be involved in the implementation of the Emergency PPKM to control the spread of COVID-19, which has a high number of cases at this time.
"The chief prosecutors can take the necessary steps according to their duties, functions, and authorities to provide support for the implementation of the Emergency PPKM policy", said Burhanuddin.
The next step is to hold a PPKM Disciplinary Law Enforcement Justice Operation, in coordination with the COVID19 Task Force, the police, the local government/Civil Service Police Unit, and the courts.
The heads of prosecutors are also asked to ensure that every procurement and distribution of goods related to the COVID-19 response runs smoothly and takes firm action against any efforts that have the potential to hinder or thwart the procurement and distribution of the said goods.
Lastly, the Attorney General also asked the prosecutors to implement a vaccination program for employees, families, and communities in their respective jurisdictions.
"The implementation of this vaccination program is in coordination with the local COVID-19 Task Force", concluded Burhanuddin.
Meanwhile, there has been no official announcement regarding the implementation of the Java-Bali special Emergency PPKM, still waiting for a decision from the central government.
