Not Accepting Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison, Rizieq Shihab Files An Appeal For The Swab Case Of The UMMi Hospital

JAKARTA - Rizieq Shihab's team of lawyers filed an appeal to the DKI Jakarta High Court against the decision of the East Jakarta Court panel of judges who sentenced him to 4 years in prison in a swab case at the UMMI Hospital. An appeal against the judge's verdict was filed this morning.

"The appeal statement has been made today," said Rizieq's lawyer, Aziz Yanuar when confirmed, Wednesday, June 30.

However, according to Aziz, the memorandum of appeal has not been included at the time of submission. Possibly, the memory will be submitted next week.

"The memory will be immediately (handed over). Maybe next week," said Aziz.

Regarding the contents of the memorandum of appeal, Aziz emphasized all the mistakes made by the judges of the East Jakarta District Court. For the team of lawyers, the sentence of 4 years in prison was inappropriate for Rizieq Shihab.

"Everything that we need to convey, we will convey in memory like a judge who made a mistake in taking the law and taking into account and others," said Aziz.

Previously, Rizieq Shihab stated that he rejected the decision of the panel of judges which imposed a prison sentence of four years for the case of the UMMI Hospital's swab test results.

The refusal was based on several reasons. One of them is the testimony of a forensic expert witness from the team of public prosecutors (JPU) who at the previous trial had denied his presence by Rizieq.

"There are several things that I cannot accept. Among them are prosecutors who present forensic experts even though at this court the forensic expert witnesses were never present. Second, I object to the panel of judges no longer using authentic results in the application of Article 14 paragraph (1) of the Law. RI Law Number 1 of 1946," said Rizieq.

"I hereby reject the judge's decision and I declare an appeal," he continued.
