Solo Mayor's Cup Postponed Due To COVID-19 Craze

JAKARTA - The 2021 Solo Mayor's Cup Tournament will certainly be postponed. This follows the craze, aka the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the area.

The Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Iqbal Alqudusy, confirmed the cancellation of the tournament, which was planned to be held from June 29 to July 4, 2021.

"Considering that COVID-19 is still increasing in the Central Java region, especially Solo and its surroundings, the tournament has been postponed," said Iqbal in Semarang, as reported by Antara, Monday, June 28.

According to him, the COVID-19 Task Force has coordinated with PSSI and relevant stakeholders in the tournament.

"Delayed until the COVID situation subsides," he said.

Previously, the 2021 Solo Mayor's Cup tournament would be held from June 29 to July 4, 2021.

Eight teams from Liga 1 and 2 Indonesia are scheduled to compete in the tournament which will be held by knockout at the Solo Manahan Stadium.

The four League 1 teams that will play in the 2021 Solo Mayor's Cup are Arema FC, Persib Bandung, Bhayangkara FC, and Bali United.

Meanwhile, the four League 2 teams that will compete are Persis Solo, PSG Pati (AHHA PS Pati), Sriwijaya FC, and RANS Cilegon FC.
