Israel Allows Fuel Tankers To Enter Gaza Strip, Palestinian Militia Still Ask For Access To Qatari Funds

JAKARTA - Israel allowed fuel tankers funded by Qatar to enter the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing, Monday, June 28. This is the first time since armed clashes last month.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Region (COGAT) announced the decision to allow the entry of fuel tankers on Sunday.

The decision to resume delivery of the fuel tankers was announced the same day, when Israel received a message from the Gaza Strip, requesting the transfer of about 10 fuel tanks for the power plant, as quoted by The Jerusalem Post from Walla! Monday 28 June.

However, in a statement today, Israeli officials still have not agreed to allow Qatari funds to enter the Gaza Strip, despite allowing fuel trucks to enter.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported today, Egyptian mediators told Hamas, Israel will open the crossing with Gaza by the end of the week if calm conditions continue.

However, Gaza's factions will escalate the situation by the end of this week, if demands for Qatar's access to funds are not realized. Al-Akhbar also claimed they would renew the launch of incendiary balloons into Israel on Sunday.

Earlier, COGAT announced on Thursday last week, the fishing zone along the Gaza coast would be extended from six nautical miles to nine nautical miles. And, imports of raw materials for important civilian factories will also be allowed from last Friday.

For information, last week Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar said he would re-escalate tensions with Israel, unless Qatar was allowed to transfer aid of 30 million US dollars to pay salaries, as quoted by The Jerusalem Post from KAN News.
