KUPANG - Police arrested a truck driver with the initials NN in a traffic accident that killed three people in Timor Tengah Selatan Regency, NTT.

"After holding the case for investigation, we will increase the status of the truck driver NN as a suspect, and now he is being detained at the South Central Timor Police", said Head of Public Relations of the NTT Police, Kombes Rishian Krisna, in Kupang, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, June 23.

He explained that the traffic accident occurred when the dump truck went off the track and overturned on the highway in Oeekam Village, South Middle East Regency, Timor Island on Monday, June 21 afternoon.

From the results of the investigation of the crime scene and the statements of witnesses, it is known that the truck with the police number DH 8483 EA driven by NN drove at high speed from Fotilo village, North Amanatun sub-district to Kiupukan village with 19 passengers on board.

The truck then crossed the soft side of the road and caused the left front wheel of the car to fall off causing the truck to fall over onto the left side of the asphalt road.

Then it coincided with a sharp turn making the car even more out of control so that it hit a mahogany tree and fell many times until it overturned.

Kombes Krisna said the unfortunate incident resulted in three deaths and 14 injured people who received medical treatment at the Public Health Center and Soe Hospital.

Due to the negligence of the driver who could not control the truck, the accident occurred.

"The single traffic accident that occurred was due to the negligence of the dump truck driver who was drunk so he was unable to control the car and got off the track", he said.

Kombes Krisna said the NN driver had been detained at the South Central Timor Police for investigation purposes and evidence in the form of a truck and passenger belongings had been evacuated from the scene.
