Dramatic, Denmark Advances To Last 16 After Beating Russia 4-1

JAKARTA - Denmark won convincingly 4-1 over Russia at the Parken Stadium in Copenhaggen to dramatically advance to the last 16. At the same time, Belgium gave them a "gift" by beating Finland 2-0 in the other Group B match.

Belgium swept through its three games in Group B by beating all three opponents, while Denmark finished second with three points and Finland third on goal difference.

Launching Antara, Mikkel Damsgaard put Denmark ahead through a curling shot from outside the penalty box in the 38th minute.

Yussuf Poulsen then doubled the position after capitalizing on a blunder by Roman Zobnin who tried to pass the ball back without seeing Poulsen's presence in the 59th minute.

Artyom Dzyuba had a chance to thin the position through a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

But Denmark did not stop scoring goals when Andreas Christensen's hard kick put the country which had been hit by the tragedy of the fall of Christian Eriksen due to a heart attack 3-1 ahead.

They still created the fourth goal from Joakim Maehle. At the same time in St Petersburg, Belgium knocked Finland 2-0 so that Denmark's 4-1 win made them the runners-up in Group B.

Denmark will face Wales in the last 16 in Amsterdam on June 26.
