Megawati Inaugurates Traditional Houses Up To Jalan Soekarno In Central Maluku

JAKARTA - The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri inaugurated a traditional house or what is called a baileo, a monument, and a road named Soekarno in Masohi, Central Maluku. The inauguration was carried out virtually from his residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Jakarta.

"By expressing gratitude to Allah SWT, I inaugurate the baileo of Bung Karno, the Bung Karno monument, and Jalan Ir. Soekarno in Masohi City, a city of mutual cooperation in Central Maluku," Megawati said as quoted from her written statement, Monday, June 21.

This inauguration coincided with the 51st anniversary of President Soekarno or Bung Karno's haul. Megawati was accompanied by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto while in Masohi, attended by PDIP DPP Chairman Komaruddin Watubun, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, PDIP DPP Secretariat Head Yoseph Aryo Adhi, Maluku Governor Murad Ismail and his wife Widya Pratiwi, and Central Maluku Regent Tuasikal Abua.

During the event, Megawati said that Soekarno had wanted Masohi to be the capital of Maluku Province and Megawati said that this was actually possible.

"Before there was regional autonomy, I had been to Masohi and I saw that it was actually a very possible location," said the PDI-P general chairman.

Furthermore, Megawati said Bung Karno made the city named Masohi because it means mutual cooperation which is inspired by the essence of Pancasila. Because if Pancasila is squeezed into one precept, the essence is gotong royong.

"So Pancasila, the meaning is mutual cooperation from the citizens of the Indonesian nation," he said.

"I hope this is not just mentioned in the mouth, but must be put in our hearts and we carry out," he added.

He also hopes that the baileo, monument, and Ir. Soekarno really became a meeting place for people, especially young people. Don't let the location be deserted and never used.

"So it is multifunctional. Entering knowledge in Central Maluku, local wisdom is introduced again to the younger generation, so that in this way a new generation of smart and tough people will be built, who can face the challenges of a new world civilization, unlike what we have experienced before," he said .

Meanwhile, Maluku Governor Murad Ismail said the Maluku people greatly appreciated the services of Soekarno, who in 1957 laid the first stone for Masohi's development.

"We believe that he does not only carry out physical development, but has a soul with Masohi which means mutual cooperation which is in line with the essence of Pancasila," said Murad.

"We hope that the presence of the baileo, the monument, and the Ir. Soekarno road will be an intention for all of us about the strong spirit of struggle and the attitude of statesmanship of Engineer Soekarno and other nation's predecessors," he added.

Complementing Murad's statement, Central Maluku Regent Tuasikal Abua said the baileo was built on an area of more than 3,000 meters.

While the monument was built along with a statue of Soekarno which is more than 10 meters high. As for Jalan Ir. Soekarno, which was inaugurated, was approximately 209 kilometers long.

"The naming of a number of places and monuments is a form of gratitude for all the people of Central Maluku Regency, and for not forgetting the history and struggle of President Soekarno," he concluded.
