Ubisoft Sues Apple And Google For Selling Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege Pirated Game
JAKARTA - Ubisoft Entertainment filed a lawsuit against Apple and Google. Because the two companies have deliberately sold a video game clone of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege.
Launching from Bloomberg, the pirated or imitation video game that Ubisoft is referring to is Area F2. A video game created by developer Ejoy of Alibaba Group Holdings.
As a result, the game developer from France filed a lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles, United States (US). In the lawsuit, Ubisoft sued about copyright infringement, because there was a mock video game that complements the success of Rainbow Six: Siege.
"All aspects in the game (Area F2) are a direct copy of Rainbow Six: Siege, from the character selection screen to the final score screen," explained Ubisoft in a statement, Monday, May 18.
In fact, Ubisoft has objected to Google and Apple regarding this issue. But both digital companies refused to withdraw the Area F2 game from their respective app stores.
Ejoy has also started promoting the Area F2 game for the United States market, since the end of last year. Not to mention the mobile version of this game that is brought by Qookka Games, which can also be downloaded via the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
Rainbow Six: Siege or R6S, already has 55 million active players worldwide. This video game is also included in the official list of games for professional and semi-professional esports competitions.
"The R6S is one of the most popular competitive multiplayer games in the world, and is one of Ubisoft's most valuable intellectual properties," said Ubisoft.
