Match Vittorio Pozzo's Record Of 30 Games Without Losing, Mancini: Our Level Is Still Very Far

JAKARTA - Roberto Mancini has chosen to be humble even though he has just matched legendary Italian coach Vittorio Pozzo's record of going 30 straight games without defeat.

The record was equaled by Mancini's Italy when they beat Wales 1-0 in the final Group A Euro 2020 match in Rome, Sunday local time (Monday, western Indonesia time).

According to Mancini, he and his team cannot be compared to Pozzo's Italy, who won the World Cup twice in a row in 1934 and 1938.

Pozzo is even the only coach to lift the World Cup trophy twice. He also led Italy to win the 1936 Olympic gold medal.

"Pozzo won a lot of important trophies too, so our level is still very far," Mancini said after the match.

With a win over Wales, Mancini is now one step closer to keeping Italy alive at Euro 2020, more than half a century after winning the tournament in 1968.

"All the teams that qualify for the last 16 can win the Euros," said Mancini.

"Of course we must not think we can win all the games or underestimate the opponent."

Mancini is indeed considered capable of resurrecting Italy from the great disappointment of failing to appear at the 2018 World Cup.

In addition to having a record of 30 matches without losing, Italy also has not scored in its last 11 matches.

Italy will be waiting for Group B runners-up in the last 16, a position that Ukraine and Austria are still fighting for.
