Toyota Yaris To Avanza Selling Well After 0 Percent PPnBM Discount

JAKARTA - The relaxation of the luxury goods sales tax (PPnBM) for motorized vehicles with engines up to 2,500 cc has significantly boosted Toyota Indonesia's sales. Moreover, this 0 percent tax discount incentive has been extended until August 2021.

"All models that have received PPnBM relaxation have increased," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) Anton Jimmi Suwandy, quoted from Antara, Saturday, June 19.

Based on TAM data, six vehicle models that have been produced by Toyota in Indonesia with local components above 70 percent experienced a significant increase in sales from January to May 2021.

The highest increase in the Vios sedan was 197.8 percent from 136 units in January-May 2020 to 405 units in the same period in 2021.

Then, the 2nd highest sales growth was the Yaris hatchback with sales of 2,728 units in January-May 2021, up 48 percent from the same period the previous year of 1,843 units.

The 3rd highest sales growth was the Kijang Innova multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), which rose 36 percent from 13,605 units in January-May 2020 to 18,611 units in the same period in 2021.

Next, the Rush sports vehicle (SUV), which rose 30.2 percent to 19,500 units in January-May 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 of 15,321 units.

Meanwhile, sales of the best-selling Toyota Avanza grew 21.3 percent to 23,285 units in January-May 2021 from the same period in 2020 of 19,192 units and the Toyota Fortuner medium SUV rose 15.1 percent from 4,875 units in January-May 2020 to 5,605 units in the same period 2021.

With the increase in sales of the six models that received the PPnBM relaxation, total sales of Toyota Indonesia increased by 23.9 percent in January-May 2021 to 101,693 units from the same period the previous year which was only 81,769 units.

The achievement of retail sales in the first five months made Toyota continue to lead the automotive market in Indonesia with a market share of 31.4 percent of total domestic car sales, which in that period reached 322,128 units.

National car retail sales also rose 23.6 percent compared to January-May 2020 which reached 260,722 units.
