Ministry Of Health Participates In Talking About Herd Immunity At Euro 2020
JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Siti Nadia Tarmizi gave an example of the form of herd immunity or group immunity seen in the 2020 European Cup.
She said this when explaining again about the target of one million vaccines per day to accelerate vaccination efforts for the community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"What we expect is group immunity like that. The form is like a clear example, we saw the European Cup. Europe is confident enough to organize an event that is large enough to involve many people, but the condition is that one must be vaccinated", Nadia said in a virtual discussion entitled 'Coping with the surge in COVID -19', Saturday, June 19.
In the European Cup, said Nadia, it was seen that there were spectators who came directly to watch the match. In fact, they don't wear masks and don't really keep their distance.
Nadia assessed that this behavior was due to the obligation to vaccinate the audience or other people. Thus, the creation of community immunity from the coronavirus.
"Because all the spectators have been vaccinated, the risk of transmission is also very low, there may even be none, even though one person can be the one who's without symptoms (OTG) but will not infect others, because the virus that is carried cannot cause illness to the people around them", explained Nadia

"That's proof of herd immunity that you want to achieve together", she continued.
Therefore, Nadia invites the entire community to support the Government's program by targeting one million doses of vaccination a day as an effort to suppress the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
"That should have proven to us that with the vaccination if the coverage is appropriate, at least 90 or 70 percent means it really suppresses it, it means we don't release the health protocols, it means really suppresses the rate of transmission of the virus", said Nadia.
