The Cause Of Austria Defeated By Netherlands, Foda: Too Often Invites Oranje To Attack

JAKARTA - Austrian national team coach Franco Foda revealed that the biggest factor in his team's 0-2 defeat to the Netherlands in the Euro 2020 Group C match was too often inviting Orange to attack.

"We lost the ball too easily in the first half, we invited the Netherlands too often to put pressure on us in the second half," said Foda.

"We managed to get into the last third of the pitch several times but couldn't let go. We didn't create enough chances," continued Foda.

According to him, his team did not pass nor fired shots. "We weren't excited enough, we didn't have a goal. It wasn't enough to attack," Foda said.

On the other hand, the players tried to be sporty, that this time they lost class to the Netherlands. This was conveyed, among others, by defender Andreas Ulmer and defender David Alaba.

"Not eliminated yet. We still have one game to go. Mistakes happen, but we've still shown that we want to play forward," said Ulmer.

"Today was not very successful. But I don't think we need to hide after that," continued Ulmer.

Alaba chimed in that he still respects his teammates who have fought hard to win this match even though they failed later.

"I'm proud of the team, we've shown courage. We didn't play as well as we wanted in the last third of the pitch," said Alaba.

Regarding the Netherlands' first goal which came from him against Orange right-back Denzel Dumfries, Alaba said, "I am responsible for the penalty. It hurts so much."
