Worryingly, The Occupancy Of The COVID-19 ICU Room In Malang City Is Increasing

JAKARTA - The Malang City Health Service stated that the Bed Occupancy Ratio (BOR) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room at the referral hospital for handling COVID-19, in Malang City, East Java, was recorded to have increased.

The Head of the Malang City Health Office, Dr. Husnul Muarif, said that, currently, cumulatively at the referral hospital for handling COVID-19 in Malang City, the occupancy rate in the COVID-19 ICU was recorded at 54 percent.

"For the ICU BOR in Malang City, there is an increase to 54 percent. Meanwhile for the COVID-19 isolation BOR, the occupancy is 28 percent," said Husnul, in Malang City, East Java, Thursday.

Husnul explained that the occupancy rate refers to the 11 referral hospitals for handling COVID-19 prepared in the Malang City area. Some of these hospitals include the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Saiful Anwar Malang City.

In addition, the Hermina Hospital, Persada Hospital, Malang City Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Dr Soepraoen Army Hospital, Unisma Islamic Hospital, Panti Nirmala Hospital, and Aisyiyah Islamic Hospital.

Husnul added, the increase in the occupancy rate of the COVID-19 handling room in Malang City was due to several factors, not only due to the spike in post-Idul Fitri 2021 holidays.

"The addition has many factors, it may occur in all aspects, not specifically from post-Lebaran only. There are several other factors, including the mobility of residents," said Husnul.

According to Husnul, until now in the city of Malang there has been no report regarding the presence of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19. The public is asked to continue to implement strict health protocols when doing activities outside the home.

"So far, it is still an old virus. There have been no reports regarding the new variant," said Husnul.

To date, Malang City has recorded a total of 6,857 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of the total, 6,141 people were reported to have recovered, 644 people were declared dead, and the rest were under treatment.
