Spotify Secretly Has Greenroom, A Social Audio Platform Similar To Clubhouse

JAKARTA - Not long ago, Clubhouse has been in great demand by the public because it is quite easy to use, with only various stories via audio. But now, Clubhouse has many rivals such as Spotify's Greenroom.

Spotify has quietly released a Clubhouse-like social audio app, called Greenroom. This service is already available for iOS and Android devices, allowing users to host or start a live chat topic.

Quoting Spotify's official blog page, Thursday, June 17, the application has a classic green-and-black design in the style of Spotify, created by Betty Labs which was acquired in the spring of last year. Initially, the app focuses on sports services, but Greenroom will allow conversations on a wide range of topics, from sports to music and culture.

Looking at its features, Greenroom has the ability to search for chat rooms, join rooms, and even create rooms, as well as display original recordings so users can save conversations and distribute them as podcasts. There are also chat controls at launch.

If you want to try, users can register with Spotify login. When signing up, users will be asked to select their interests, favorite music genre, and sports teams, so they can bring up relevant rooms for live conversations.

Spotify also plans to monetize content creators such as the YouTube system. While Spotify doesn't go into detail, content creators on Greenroom are likely to be paid based on how popular their chat room is and how many join.

It is known, social audio services are definitely one of the main trends in 2021. Since Clubhouse emerged and became a must-have social application. Not long ago, Twitter also launched a similar service namely Spaces, Facebook made Live Audio Rooms, and even Slack, LinkedIn, Reddit, and Discord all built the same service.
