Cristiano Ronaldo's 2 Goals Lead Portugal To Beat Hungary
JAKARTA - Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and one from Raphael Guerreiro in the space of eight minutes in the final moments of the match ensured Portugal's 3-0 win over hosts Hungary at the Puskas Arena, Budapest.
Raphael Guerreiro broke the deadlock in the 84th minute which Ronaldo doubled from a penalty kick in the 87th minute. Ronaldo scored his second goal three minutes from the end of the game in the 90+2 minute.
Diogo Jota was a constant threat for Portugal in the Hungarian penalty area and this player did that from the start, including in the ninth minute when his shot missed the target.
A duet with Ronaldo, Jota continued to break through the Hungarian penalty box. They both tried to open up their opponent's defenses.
In the 19th minute, he was already in a good position when he received Pepe's long ball from the Portuguese playing area, but goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi brilliantly blocked his shot even though the referee had declared Ronaldo's movement offside.
Ronaldo again created opportunities after not being able to continue Bernardo Silva's bait in the 30th minute.
Seven minutes later it was Adam Szalai's turn to open the scoring for Hungary with a curling free-kick that goalkeeper Rui Patrício tamed. In the 40th minute, Jota came close again and Gulacsi again thwarted the danger.
Three minutes later Ronaldo created his best chance of the first half after his shot, which was sent home by Bruno Fernandes, went wide of goal.
In the second half, Portugal did not stop pressing Hungary who also often sent dangerous threats through their counterattacks.
Three minutes from second-half kickoff, Pepe headed home a Bruno Fernandes corner but again the Hungarian goalkeeper made a brilliant save by blocking it.
Hungary returned a threat in the 50th minute which Szalai made again and again Rui Patricio also played brilliantly against Portugal.
Seven minutes later it was Roland Sallai's turn to force Rui Patricio to make a save.
Never breaking into the Hungarian goal, coach Fernando Santos pulled Jota and William Carvalho with the duo of Andre Silva and Renato Sanches in the 81st minute. And the decision paid off because it opened wide the Hungarian defense with the energy of the puncture given by Renato.
As reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 16 in the early hours of the morning, three minutes later Santos' decision paid off when Rafa Silva's ball hit the Hungarian player's feet to fall at the feet of Raphaël Guerreiro who cheated on him and the ball was deflected again, tricking Gulasci into the net.
