There Is A Green Light On The Return Of The Premier League

JAKARTA - British Minister for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports Oliver Dowden has given the green light regarding the return of the Premier League after being suspended since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the government "opened the door" for football to roll back in June.

Dowden has held a virtual meeting with football stakeholder authorities including the Premier League, EFL (operator of the three divisions under the Premier League) and the FA to continue the progressive plan for the return of football.

"We agree that things can continue when it is safe enough and the health and safety of the players, coaches and staff remains a top priority," Dowden said in a statement.

"The government opens the door so that football competitions can roll back safely from June. It also includes steps to expand access for fans to enjoy live broadcasts as well as financial support to the soccer community at large," he added.

Dowden then said that even though the government had opened the door, the details of the plans for the continuation of the 2019-2020 competition were in the hands of the football stakeholder authorities. He ensured that the government would provide guidance for the plan.

"It's a combination of goodwill to make things happen for the fans, the football community and the country at large," said Dowden.

"The government and health experts will continue to provide guidance and support for the competition, regardless of the final decision taken to realize the season continuation plan," he said.

Liverpool lead at the top of the table with a 25-point lead before the league is halted. On paper, the Reds only need six points to ensure the title, with 10-11 games remaining.
