Ahead Of Lebaran, Bulog Will Provide 22,000 Tons Of Sugar

JAKARTA - President Director of Bulog, Budi Waseso, said that his party is ready to distribute crystal white sugar (GKP) to the market this weekend, to ensure the availability of sugar for the people, especially before Eid, so that the price of these basic needs can still be affordable by the wider community.

"Bulog has just obtained a supply of sugar and will immediately distribute it so that basic necessities can still be available, especially in extraordinary situations like now, plus there will be Eid al-Fitr activities in sight," said Budi Waseso, in his written statement, Thursday, May 14. .

Bulog will supply at least 22,000 tons of sugar which has just been imported from India. The main objective of this activity is to fill the demand for sugar in the rakyar market during Ramadan and Eid, so that there is no concern in the community.

"The sugar imports are only part of the import permits granted by the state to Bulog, out of a total of 50,000 tons. Sugar imports are part of the state's assignment to stabilize the price of sugar," said the former Head of Bareskim Polri.

As it is known, the price of granulated sugar at the consumer level since before the month of Ramadan until now has reached a price of IDR 19,000 per kilogram (kg), so there needs to be massive intervention from the government.

With stocks controlled, Perum Bulog is very optimistic that it can push sugar prices back to the highest retail price (HET) of IDR 12,500 per kg. In addition, the security of the amount of rice stock spread throughout the working area of Perum BULOG has reached 1.4 million tons.

Perum Bulog also continues to carry out domestic procurement in the form of unhulled rice and grain from farmers who are currently in the harvest season and as of mid-May, BULOG's absorption has reached 290,000 tons.

"We are optimistic that our core business will not be disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are always ready to carry out the task of the state to fulfill the people's basic needs and the absorption of domestic rice grains during the main harvest which happens to fall in the same month, namely in the moon. Ramadan, "he said.
