5 People Killed Due to Ukrainian Drone Attack in Moscow Industrial Area

JAKARTA - Five people were killed by a Ukrainian drone attack targeting an industrial area in the Moscow region, Russia.

The attack appears to be the deadliest in the capital region since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.

Regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov said 10 people were also injured in the attack in the Chekhov district, south of the capital. The impact of the attack triggered a number of fires in industrial areas and caused damage to administrative buildings and the main power substation.

Vorobyov also reported damage to a house and vehicles in the village of Solnyshkovo.

"The military continues to try to repel the attack. Unmanned aerial vehicles have been detected in the Moscow region, specifically in the Volokolamsk, Klin, Chekhov, and Serebryanye Prudy districts," the governor wrote, as reported by ABC News, Tuesday, August 4.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that it had shot down 320 Ukrainian drones overnight, including in the Moscow and Leningrad regions.

The governor of Leningrad, Aleksandr Drozdenko, said via a post on Telegram, 17 Ukrainian drones were shot down in his region.

"The damage was recorded in the Krasny Bor warehouse area," said Drozdenko, while mentioning that the facility owned by one of Russia's largest online retailers, Wildberries, was among the damaged buildings.

Other Wildberries facilities were also attacked in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow, according to the region's governor, Vitaly Korolev, via a post on Telegram.

Ukrainian drone attacks have recently targeted Wildberries' national storage and transportation network; according to Kyiv, the company facilitates the sale of military equipment - including drones - to the Russian army.
