Sabira Island Conservation Program by PLN Receives Platinum Award at Indonesia Green Awards 2026

JAKARTA - The conservation program run by PT PLN (Persero) Distribution Unit (UID) Greater Jakarta on Sabira Island, Thousand Islands, has received national recognition. The Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program entitled Conservation of Sabira Island: Sabira Green and Digital Lighthouse Island received the Platinum Alignment Award with a value of 95.75 at the 2026 Indonesia Green Awards.

Not only that, the program was also designated as a CEPI Champion Candidate by the award organizer, La Tofi School of Social Responsibility.

General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin, said the award was an acknowledgment of the conservation program developed by PLN since 2022 on Sabira Island as one of the outermost islands in Indonesia.

"For PLN, sustainability is not only about keeping the electricity supply reliable, but also ensuring that our presence provides wider benefits for the community. Through the Sabira Island Conservation Program, we strive to present solutions that touch environmental, economic, and capacity-building aspects of the community so that they can grow independently and sustainably," said Andy in his statement, Monday, August 3.

The program combines the preservation of marine ecosystems, community economic empowerment, the use of digital technology, and the improvement of the capacity of the younger generation.

In the environmental sector, PLN together with residents planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings and transplanted 1,600 coral reef seedlings to maintain coastal ecosystems and marine biota habitats. Public internet access is also provided to expand access to information for the Sabira Island community.

Meanwhile, in the economic sector, this program encourages the efficiency of fishermen's activities through the use of conservation rumpon which reduces fuel consumption from around 30 liters to 10 liters in one trip.

PLN also accompanies the development of the Sabira Tower UMKM through the modernization of processing marine products so that products have a longer shelf life and higher added value.

In addition, Karang Taruna Sabira Island received training as an ecotourism guide and training through the Trainers Create Trainers method so that conservation education can be developed independently by the community.

"The success of this program is reflected in the birth of the full independence of the Karang Taruna Sabira Island youth as the vanguard of environmental protection. We hope that this integrated conservation model can become a reference and be replicated in other locations," said Andy.

The Sabira Island Conservation Program is said to be in line with ISO 26000 standards and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of education, economic growth, and preservation of marine ecosystems.
