Coordinating Minister Yusril reminds the public not to judge themselves

Pangkalpinang - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra emphasized that the public should not be a judge in their own right because it violates applicable regulations and human rights (HAM).

"People should not be the judge and jury against people suspected of theft, robbery, extortion and other crimes," said Yusril Ihza Mahendra when attending the XXXVII Graduation of Bangka Belitung University (UBB) in Balun Ijuk, Bangka Regency, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 28.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said that recently there have been problems and unrest in the community related to the occurrence of cases of robbery, robbery, theft and others, but that is not the problem but those who are suspected or suspected of committing the crime are arrested en masse, beaten, tortured to death.

"This raises new questions because the self-judging action is not in accordance with the applicable rules. Therefore, I invite the public to respect human rights together and obey the applicable rules," he said.

Yusril gave an example of a case in Bali some time ago, where a resident allegedly stole a chicken who was arrested by the community, beaten, tortured to death.

"This is very sad, even if one chicken is the same as human life and cases like this happen a lot in other areas," he said.

Yusril appealed to all of his ranks, the police and local governments to educate the public not to take the law into their own hands to people suspected of theft, robbery and others.

"The public should not be the judge themselves, but enforce the law by handing the perpetrators over to the police to carry out the applicable legal process," he said.
