BI Increases SRBI Interest Rates, Foreign Investment Reaches IDR 288.65 Trillion
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) continues to strengthen its efforts to maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate through the optimization of various monetary instruments, one of the steps taken is to increase the yield of Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI) to increase the attractiveness of foreign portfolio investment.
Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said the policy had encouraged an increase in foreign investors' interest in SRBI as well as being part of BI's strategy to strengthen the stability of the rupiah exchange rate.
"The policy of raising the SRBI interest rate to attract inflows of foreign portfolio investment and strengthen the stability of the rupiah exchange rate," he said in a press conference, Wednesday, July 22.
Based on Bank Indonesia data, the ownership of SRBI by non-resident investors increased from Rp238.09 trillion as of June 15, 2026 to Rp288.65 trillion as of July 20, 2026 or equivalent to 27.11 percent of the total outstanding SRBI.
In addition, Perry said Bank Indonesia also optimizes all monetary instruments and provides incentives for a 10 percent reduction in the hedging swap rate for foreign investors to further increase the attractiveness of foreign investors and compensate for the obligations that investors have been bearing.
"Bank Indonesia also expands foreign exchange monetary operations instruments with spot and swap instruments in Chinese Renminbi (CNH) offshore currencies against the rupiah in line with the widespread use of local currencies (Local Currency Transaction, LCT) for the settlement of trade and investment transactions," he said.
On the other hand, Perry said the rupiah strengthened again to Rp17,885 per US dollar on July 21, 2026, after weakening since the end of June 2026 due to the re-escalation of conflicts in the Middle East and the strengthening of market expectations of an increase in the FFR, with this development, the exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar is relatively stable compared to the level at the end of June 2026 of Rp17,880.
"To maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate, Bank Indonesia continues to optimize interventions both in the foreign NDF market (off-shore) and spot and DNDF transactions in the domestic market," he explained.
Looking ahead, Perry said BI would continue to expand incentives to continue to attract foreign capital inflows and strengthen the stability of the rupiah exchange rate.
"BI believes that the exchange rate of the rupiah will be stable and tends to strengthen, supported by BI's commitment through various strengthening of the stabilization of the rupiah exchange rate, attractive yields, and the prospect of Indonesia's economic growth which remains good," he said.
