New Cases Touch 8 Thousand Again, COVID-19 Task Force Gives Strong Warning To Java Regional Government

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, gave a stern warning to all local governments in the Java region. Because, currently new cases of COVID-19 per day are back above 8 thousand.

As of June 10, there were 8,892 new cases of COVID-19 nationwide. Then, new cases on June 11 were 8,063. The province with the highest number of new cases was in Java.

"Currently, the provinces on the island of Java have contributed a very significant increase in cases in the last few days," said Wiku in the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube video, Friday, June 11.

In fact, said Wiku, the increase in new cases of 8 thousand had occurred four months ago, namely on February 25. After that, new cases fell again and are currently increasing again.

"This increase is certainly a strong warning for all of us to evaluate and prepare ourselves in the face of the possibility of a higher increase in cases in the days ahead," he said.

Wiku explained the increase in cases and bed occupancy ratio (BOR) specifically for COVID-19 in the province of Java in the last 10 days.

Central Java, in the last 10 days experienced an 80 percent increase in cases. Where as of the 10th yesterday, the daily addition of cases reached more than 1,500. Meanwhile, the BOR of isolation rooms at referral hospitals in this province reached 66.89 percent.

"Furthermore, DKI Jakarta became the province with the most significant increase in cases, where in just 10 days the cases increased by more than 300 percent, where on June 1, the daily cases were only 519 cases and on the 10th yesterday the daily cases reached 2096. BOR in DKI Jakarta reached 62.13 percent," he explained.

West Java experienced an increase of 49 percent in the last 10 days with BOR reaching 61.75 percent. East Java daily cases increased by 89 percent from the previous increase of 225 cases on the 1st, on the 10th yesterday the addition of 425 cases. BOR in East Java was 31.57 percent.

In the Special Region of Yogyakarta, the daily cases increased quite sharply, namely 107 percent, from the previous increase of only 219 cases per day. However, on the 10th the cases increased by 455 in one day. BOR in Yogyakarta reached 54.38 percent. Meanwhile in Banten, the cases increased by 57 in 10 days and the BOR was 53.87 percent.

"We ask all regional heads to be able to see their area down to the district or city level, even to the sub-district level. Handling that is carried out specifically and on target will certainly have a faster impact on improving conditions," he concluded.
