Two Young Rock Climbers Attend World Climbing Youth Championship in Italy

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Bouldering Federation (FPTI) has sent two young athletes, Ardana Cikal Damarwulan and Haddan Malik Baqmuhyibar, to compete in the 2026 World Climbing Youth Championship.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Arco, Italy, on July 18-25, 2026. Cikal will compete in the lead discipline under 17 (U-17) men and boulder U-17 men, while Haddan will compete in the speed under 19 (U-19) men's category.

Indonesian lead cliff climber coach, Amri, revealed that there was no special target for these two athletes because they were young athletes who needed to add game hours.

"Cikal and Haddan are two young athletes who need flying hours. Therefore, we do not set ambitious targets," he said as quoted by Antara.

The tournament is an annual event for age groups organized by World Climbing or the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

The event is one of the prestigious stages for young athletes in the world to measure their ability and gain experience in facing international competition before participating in senior championships. The championship is expected to be attended by hundreds of athletes from dozens of countries.

Haddan Malik Baqmuhyibar is an Indonesian mainstay young rock climber who has achieved success in the world arena. He is the gold medal winner in the U-17 category for the individual speed men's event in the 2025 IFSC Youth Asian Championship in Guiyang, China.

Meanwhile, Ardana Cikal Damarwulan is the gold medalist in the men's lead number in the 2025 Thailand SEA Games last December.

The two of them had departed for Italy via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday, July 16, 2026. They left for Italy with the coaching staff.
