Driver of a Car Destroying Angkot in Bekasi is Designated as a Suspect
JAKARTA - The South Bekasi Police have named a city bus (angkot) driver with the initials AA (20) as a suspect in the case of damaging a car and attempting to beat another driver in the Bekasi area.
South Bekasi Police Chief Kompol Suparmin confirmed the arrest of the suspect who had been widely reported in social media because of his rampage on the highway.
"For the perpetrator with the initials AA, 20 years old, we have secured. His status is now a suspect," said Suparmin as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 13.
Suparmin explained that based on the results of the interim examination, the incident was triggered by a moment of emotion on the highway.
The suspect admitted that he was upset because he was not given a way when he wanted to overtake the victim's vehicle.
"The motive is because the perpetrator felt upset when he wanted to overtake (the victim's vehicle) he couldn't," he said.
Suparmin confirmed that the victim had officially made a Police Report (LP) at the South Bekasi Police.
For his actions, suspect AA is currently detained and charged with vandalism.
Suparmin said investigators applied Article 521 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding vandalism.
The suspect was not charged with assault or beating because the physical attack did not hit the victim's body.
"The perpetrator was charged with vandalism. This is because the beating did not hit the victim, because the victim managed to dodge," said Suparmin.
Previously, a video circulated on the Instagram social media through the @lbj_jakarta account which showed a transport driver seen vandalizing another car driver.
"This anarchist incident was triggered because the perpetrators of emotions were not given a way when trying to rob the queue of congestion. The first form of obstruction was carried out by the perpetrators in the Kemang Pratama area by placing flower pots in the middle of the road while throwing curses," wrote the account.
The account also wrote that the act of hooliganism peaked when the perpetrator brutally damaged the victim's vehicle by hitting the right door and breaking the glass on the driver's side.
