Wonderwall and Hey Jude accompany England's step into the 2026 World Cup semi-finals
JAKARTA - The songs "Wonderwall" and "Hey Jude" accompanied England's step into the 2026 World Cup semifinals after defeating Norway 2-1 at the Miami Stadium, United States, Saturday.
"Wonderwall", which was created by Noel Gallagher and popularized by Oasis, was sung by the English national team right after the match against Norway was over.
They sang the song together with the England national team players led by captain Harry Kane.
Singing "Wonderwall" after the England national team match has become a new habit for the country's supporters. They only did it in the 2026 World Cup.
According to FIFA, the song released in October 1995 made the connection between fans and the English national team even closer.
That adds to their motivation to reclaim the World Cup trophy they last won in 1966.
After singing "Wonderwall", English supporters sang "Hey Jude", which was released in 1968 by the famous English band, The Beatles.
"Hey Jude" is dedicated to Jude Bellingham, the English midfielder who bagged two winning goals against Norway and took his country to the 2026 World Cup finals.
The song has been attached to Bellingham since Euro 2024, when he scored the only goal to lead England to a 1-0 win over Serbia in the group stage.
At Miami Stadium, as "Hey Jude" rang out across the stadium, the cameras did not let up on Bellingham's face.
England qualified for the 2026 World Cup semi-finals after defeating Norway 2-1.
Two English goals were created by Jude Bellingham, while Norway scored from the feet of Andreas Schjelderup.
The achievement makes England repeat the feat at the 1990 World Cup. Already in the top four, England is also aiming for the championship trophy like in 1966, the only World Cup trophy they have so far.
