Indonesia Car Sales Strengthened in June 2026, PHEV Jumped Sharp

JAKARTA - The Indonesian automotive market again showed a positive trend in June 2026. Based on data from the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo), car sales increased both in terms of factory distribution to dealers (wholesales) and direct sales to consumers (retail).

Throughout June 2026, car sales in wholesales reached 77,550 units or increased 12 percent compared to May 2026. Meanwhile, retail sales also recorded an increase of 3.9 percent, from 71,687 units in May to 74,507 units in June.

Cumulatively from January to June 2026, the sales of cars in wholesales have reached 436,564 units. Meanwhile, retail sales were recorded at 433,848 units.

In terms of vehicle segments, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) cars recorded significant growth. If previously sales ranged in the range of 500 units per month, in June 2026 the distribution jumped to 2,402 units.

Meanwhile, battery-based electric vehicles (BEV) have also increased. Wholesale sales of electric cars rose from 9,290 units in May to 12,653 units in June. Toyota still maintains its position as the best-selling car brand in Indonesia.

In June 2026, the Japanese manufacturer recorded wholesales of 22,809 units and retail of 21,122 units. The second position also did not change with Daihatsu recording wholesales distribution of 14,125 units and retail of 12,725 units.

Suzuki completes the top three after recording wholesales of 6,057 units and retail of 5,684 units. On the other hand, Honda actually experienced a decline in performance.

In the wholesales sales, the brand is in ninth place, below Jaecoo and above Geely. Meanwhile, in retail sales, Honda ranks seventh.
