Paris Re-Enacts Extreme Heat Alert Status
JAKARTA - The Paris region has been placed in the highest level of weather alert status for the second time this summer.
The situation is a record in itself because France has never issued two highest alert status in the same summer, local media reported on Friday, July 10.
The BFMTV news channel reported that the Ile-de-France region had never experienced a red (highest) alert status twice in one year, especially with the distance being only three weeks apart from the previous alert status.
Temperatures in Paris itself are expected to exceed 35°C throughout the weekend.
Overall, around 21.9 million people in 24 administrative regions across France are expected to be affected by the implementation of the red alert status on Saturday.
The French meteorological agency forecasts that air temperatures could soar to 41°C in areas stretching from northern Nouvelle-Aquitaine to the central Loire Valley.
Responding to the extreme heat wave that is currently sweeping the country, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu is scheduled to lead an emergency meeting to handle the crisis on Friday at 10.00 local time (08.00 GMT/15.00 WIB).
