Catholic Youth Urges Police to Be Transparent in Revealing Coal Governance Corruption Cases

JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Catholic Youth PP, Stefanus Gusma, urged the National Police to be transparent in conveying the progress of the investigation of the alleged corruption case series being handled by the joint team of the National Police Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and the Metro Jaya Police.

According to him, openness to the public is important to be carried out so that no party has influence to hinder the law enforcement process.

"Immediately convey to the public the development and results. All steps of law enforcement officers in order to eradicate corruption we will fully support. If there are officials or influential people who hinder the investigation, do not be afraid. The people will support," said Gusma, Thursday, July 9, 2026.

He also reminded the President's statement that no party should be immune from the law and the law should not be used as a political tool.

"The President has firmly emphasized that no party should be immune from the law and the law should not be used as a political tool," he said.

Gusma assessed that the search carried out by the joint team was an important part of uncovering alleged criminal acts of corruption. He appreciated the efforts of investigators who targeted a number of locations related to the handling of the alleged corruption case of PLN coal management, Jiwasraya, Asabri, as well as alleged criminal acts of money laundering.

"Yesterday's search activity was extraordinary. The public must fully support the rapid steps of the National Police in uncovering alleged corruption," he said.

On the other hand, Gusma also highlighted the presence of TNI soldiers who carried out security at the house of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, in the Jalan Radio area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

Although the security refers to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 66 of 2025 concerning State Protection for Prosecutors in Carrying Out Their Duties, Gusma asked that the situation not create a negative perception among the public.

He also touched on information regarding the alleged presence of TNI personnel at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters.

"He said he wanted to pick up witnesses and take evidence. Then what did the TNI personnel do to guard the house of the Attorney General's senior official whose name was again mentioned in the media," he said.

Therefore, Gusma asked the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto to pay attention to the dynamics.

"The TNI Commander must pay attention to this dynamic. Don't let there be TNI members who are used or leave the TNI's role and duties," he said.

The search conducted by the joint investigators was related to three cases of alleged corruption in coal governance which allegedly triggered a mass blackout, the alleged corruption case of PT Asabri and PT Jiwasraya for the period 2020-2025, and alleged money laundering in the settlement of PT CBS's debt to PT KNI.

During the operation, investigators searched 12 locations in Jakarta, South Tangerang, and Bogor Regency. From the search at Cafe de'Clan Signature and Koin Money Changer in the Cipete area, South Jakarta, investigators seized cash in various currencies.

From the hidden safe in the Cafe de'Clan Signature, investigators seized 3,130,000 Singapore dollars, 889,965 US dollars, and Rp259,159,000 with a total value of around Rp60 billion. Meanwhile, from the Coin Money Changer, money worth around Rp7.2 billion in the form of 16 foreign currency packages was seized.
