Trump slips at NATO summit, says Japan's Islamic Republic not Iran

JAKARTA - Amid the high tension between the United States and Iran, US President Donald Trump slipped on the stage of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey.

Trump, who spoke at length about Iran and his hatred for the Tehran leader, even mispronounced the Japanese country which should be Iran.

This happened when Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ankara. The Strait Times reported that Trump said the "Islamic Republic of Japan" fired missiles at the US aircraft carrier; he seemed to have mistakenly called Japan - his old ally - as Iran.

"There were 111 missiles fired by the Islamic Republic of Japan," Trump said.

He continued by saying that the missiles were fired at the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier within an hour and were intercepted.

The latest from Trump who has been confused with Iran for three days. After realizing the threat of a heavy attack on Iran, Trump now says Iran is trying to push for a deal.

"They called not long ago. They really want to make a deal. I just don't know if they deserve to make a deal. I also don't know if they will abide by that deal. That's the problem," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Trump said that whenever Iran attacked the United States, he would retaliate 20 times harder.

"They did a little something today, but it was really just a counterattack for what happened last night. When they attacked, we responded with much greater strength," Trump continued.

Trump also hinted that the current conflict with Iran could potentially escalate into a full-scale military confrontation.
