Nam Joo Hyuk is Getting More Challenged After Receiving the Script for "The East Palace" After Wamil

JAKARTA - Actor Nam Joo Hyuk is back acting through the series The East Palace. This series is his latest work after he completed his mandatory military service in 2024.

"When I first read the script, I was serving in the military. As we know, the military environment can sometimes be stressful and this script aroused my desire to take on the challenge," Nam Joo Hyuk said at a press conference for the series The East Palace on Wednesday, July 8.

When looking at his role, Nam Joo Hyuk was challenged to show his character well, especially the historical fantasy genre which is the main premise of this series.

"By reading this script, it actually awakened my desire to take on this challenge. I feel very motivated to join. In addition, I am also very curious about how "Dunia Gwi" (spirit world) will be visualized," he explained.

"I really enjoyed reading it, and I know that if there is an opportunity, I want to fully immerse myself in the role of Gu Cheon. From the beginning, I really wanted to play Gu Cheon," said Nam Joo Hyuk.

The figure of Gu Cheon is a ghost hunter who has the ability to enter the spirit realm. With his trauma, he tries to face the world in the midst of his spiritual abilities.

"Gu Cheon shuts himself off from the outside world and has trouble expressing his emotions. He is always on guard against others and prefers to live a quiet and solitary life. He is a very lonely character," said Nam Joo Hyuk.

To delve into his role, Nam Joo Hyuk studied choreography at an action school long before the production of The East Palace series began. He felt mixed because he was the only Korean actor to be featured in global promotions.

"I've been in the action school long before the official shooting process started. I spent a lot of time training the choreography of the movements, which we then perfected again while on location. Once the movements became muscle memory, performing the action scenes felt much smoother," continued Nam Joo Hyuk.
