JAKARTA - The coach of the Italian national team, Roberto Mancini, is targeting the semifinals of Euro 2020 and hopes that Gli Azzurri will appear entertaining during the opening match of the tournament against Turkey at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Friday local time (Saturday, Indonesian time).
Italy, which has seen a revolution since being handled by Mancini, arrives at Euro 2020 armed with a 27-match unbeaten streak since 2018 and is considered to be one of the dark horses of the tournament.
"I think after everything we've been through, now is a good time to try to make people smile again", Mancini told a pre-match press conference.
"That will be our target for the next month, we want people to enjoy the conditions and have fun. I think it will be an exciting 90 minutes for a lot of people, we are ready to give everything we can.
"The opening match is always the toughest, especially when we start the tournament. We have to let go and try to enjoy the situation, that's the target", he added.
Since being handled by Mancini, Italy has experienced a significant revival since the disappointment of failing to penetrate the main round of the 2018 World Cup.
