As Alleged, Spain National Team Won Easily Over Saudi Arabia 4-0
JAKARTA - The Spanish national team won their first victory at the 2026 World Cup after defeating Saudi Arabia with a landslide score of 4-0 in the second match of Group H at the Atlanta Stadium, USA on Sunday (21/6).
This victory makes La Roja now collecting four points and temporarily leading Group H, ahead of Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde who have only collected one point each.
Lamine Yamal opened the La Roja's goal feast with his first goal in the World Cup in the 10th minute.
The Barcelona winger successfully completed Mikel Oyarzabal's flat pass from close range to give Spain a quick lead.
Spain's advantage increased in the 21st minute through Oyarzabal's action. The goal started from a corner situation which was passed by Aymeric Laporte with a header before the ball fell to Oyarzabal's feet who calmly defeated goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais.
Three minutes later, Oyarzabal again recorded his name on the scoreboard. Starting from an attack built through Marc Cucurella and Dani Olmo, the Real Sociedad striker snatched the ball in front of the goal to bring Spain ahead 3-0 in the 24th minute.
The dominance of Luis de la Fuente's team continued into the second half. Just four minutes after the break, Spain got an additional goal after Saudi Arabia defender Hassan Al-Tombakti committed a suicide goal in the 49th minute which made the score 4-0.
After leading four goals, as reported by Antara, Spain still dominated the course of the match. Mohammed Al-Owais several times thwarted additional opportunities from La Roja, including making a series of saves on Pedro Porro and Ferran Torres shots.
Saudi Arabia struggled to develop the game throughout the match and failed to provide a meaningful threat to the Spanish defense until the final whistle blew. This victory keeps Spain's chances of advancing to the 2026 World Cup 32-team round.
