Police Ask Criminal Experts to Investigate the Case of Burning of Students in Central Lombok

MATARAM - The Central Lombok Police, West Nusa Tenggara, asked for the views of criminal experts regarding the incident of burning three students who occurred at the Batukliang area boarding school with one of them dying.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Lombok Police AKPPunguan Hutahaean said this request for a criminal expert opinion was the final step in the investigation to determine whether or not there was a criminal incident in the incident.

"So, just wait for the criminal expert examination," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 20.

Due to the need for the final investigation, Punguan chose not to disclose to the public the agenda of the implementation and the background of the criminal expert.

During the investigation, the police from the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Central Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit have asked for information from witnesses, ranging from victims, reporters from one of the parents of the victims, the manager of the ponpes, to officials from the regional office of the Ministry of Religion (kemenag).

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Central Lombok Police, Iptu Lalu Brata Kusnadi, previously explained that the handling of this case was followed up by the police, who investigated whether there were elements of negligence by the boarding school until three students became victims of arson.

The case of alleged arson with three victims of students occurred in November 2025. This case only became public attention after a video showing the child victim receiving medical treatment for burns went viral on social media in May 2026.

This issue has also received attention from the Mataram City Child Protection Agency (LPA). Joko Jumadi as chairman of the agency admitted that he was concerned after seeing the video of the child victim uploaded by the owner of the account named @Tiara Erna BenKinara Cahya.

From the results of the LPA investigation, the three victims were still sitting in the first grade of the tsanawiyah madrasah. They were reportedly doused with fuel before being burned by other students.

As a result of the incident, two victims suffered serious burns, while another victim was reported dead.

"There are three victims. Two were burned and one died," said Joko.
