Ukrainian Terrorist Plot Arrested in Russia

JAKARTA - Three people were arrested in three places in Russia, namely the Republic of Adygea, the Tyumen region, and the Krasnodar Krai, for allegedly cooperating with Ukraine to plan terrorist attacks against Russian military personnel as well as transport and energy facilities.

"The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained three people who cooperated with Ukrainian intelligence in the Republic of Adygea, Tyumen region, and Krasnodar Krai," the FSB said in a statement on Wednesday, June 17, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik.

The three people arrested planned to carry out sabotage and terrorism against members of the Russian armed forces, volunteer organizations supporting participants in special military operations, transport infrastructure facilities, as well as the fuel and energy sectors in these regions, the statement added.

The FSB explained that the illegal activities of the suspects were immediately identified and taken action on. From the suspects, officers seized an improvised bomb made using foreign explosives.

"Examination of the communication devices belonging to the detainees revealed correspondence with the controlling party from Ukraine containing instructions on the implementation of the planned terrorist attack," the FSB statement said.

According to the statement, criminal cases have been opened against the suspects based on related articles regarding the preparation of terrorist attacks and possession of illegal explosives or explosive devices.
