Iran Warns of Attempt to Cross Hormuz Strait Without Permission
JAKARTA - The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has warned ships not to try to cross the Strait of Hormuz, which had previously been closed, following the tanker incident, according to a report by Iranian satellite television channel, Al-Alam.
"We continue to control the Strait of Hormuz and will take firm action against any ship that tries to cross it," the report said, quoting IRGC command statements from Antara and Sputnik.
According to the report, the Iranian military had previously fired shots to prevent a tanker from passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The incident occurred off the coast of the city of Sirik, in southern Iran.
Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) on Thursday confirmed that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz to shipping until further notice.
