Borobudur will again be the center of the 2026 National Vesak Celebration

MAGELANG - The religious atmosphere began to be felt in the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang, Central Java, ahead of the celebration of Tri Suci Waisak 2570 Buddhist Era (BE). A number of monks appeared to undergo a three-step Namaskara sacred procession as part of the Waisak worship series, starting Thursday, May 28.

The peak of the Tri Suci Waisak 2570 BE commemoration is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 31 in the Borobudur Temple area. Various preparations have been made since the end of May, ranging from the establishment of a flower and lotus-decorated altar, religious rituals, to the readiness of the location of the lantern flight in Lumbini Park and the Main Marga Field.

Ahead of the series of events, the Gegana Brimob Team sterilized the Candi Mendut area, Magelang Regency, Friday, May 29, to ensure the safety and smooth running of all National Vesak activities 2026.

The National Vesak commemoration series began in the morning with the procession of taking the Vesak Dharma Fire at the Mrapen Eternal Fire Site, Grobogan Regency. The procession took place from 07.00 WIB to 15.30 WIB.

After that, the activities continued in the Candi Mendut area with the ritual of consecrating the Dharma Waisak Fire which was attended by the Sangha, clergy, as well as the Walubi Buddhist Assembly and LKBI.

The sacred procession was then continued with the pradaksina ritual or circling the Mendut Temple as a form of respect for Buddhists in the Holy Tri Waisak commemoration.

In addition, the National Vesak series is also filled with Krodikali Feasts Offering or sacred offerings and communal meals in the Tantrayana Buddhist tradition held in the Aksobhya Park area of Borobudur Temple.

In the afternoon and evening, Buddhists also followed the Larung Pelita Purnama Siddhi procession in the Candi Pawon area and Progo River from 16.30 WIB to 20.30 WIB.

The National Vesak Memorial 2026 is expected to be attended by thousands of Buddhists from various regions in Indonesia and abroad. The security apparatus together with the committee continues to carry out security and traffic management activities to ensure that all series of worship take place safely, orderly, and diligently.
