Bulungan Region Again Hit by Fire, 13 Houses in Sekatak Buji Burned Down

TANJUNG SELOR - A fire disaster has occurred again in the Bulungan Regency area. This time, at least 13 units of residents' houses on Jalan Pangeran Muda RT 001, Sekatak Buji Village, Sekatak District, were swallowed by the red dragon, Saturday (23/5/2026) at around 10.30 Wita.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bulungan Police, AKP Haji Rio Adi Pratama said that in addition to the residents' houses, two vehicles were also reported to have been burned in the incident, fortunately there were no casualties in the incident.

There were no casualties in the incident. However, the material losses are estimated to be quite large considering the number of buildings that were burned.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bulungan Police, AKP Haji Rio Adi Pratama said the police immediately moved to the location after receiving a report from residents regarding the fire.

"Personnel immediately went to the crime scene, helped the extinguishing process, took witness statements, took the first action at the scene of the crime, and put up a police line around the fire location," said AKP Haji Rio.

Rio revealed that based on the testimony of a witness named Julia (35), the fire was first known after he smelled a burning smell while at home with a resident named Mama Aco.

"The witness asked if there was any cooking activity, but was answered no. Not long after, Mama Aco's child shouted that there was a fire in the kitchen of the house," said Rio.

"When residents left their homes, the fire was said to have burned the back of the house and quickly spread to other buildings in the adjacent residential area," he continued.

Then, residents together with the police tried to put out the fire so that it did not spread to other houses.

He explained, the local police's provisional data recorded at least 13 houses were burned, including those belonging to Sabaria, Safi'i, Syahril, Amir, Iwan, Buhari, Mr. Ani, Nenek Day, and one Rimbana lodging unit belonging to a member of the Kaltara DPRD, Alimudin Anwar.

"In addition, two vehicles were also burned, one unit of a Yamaha matic motorcycle and one unit of a Toyota Vios sedan," he explained.

AKP Haji Rio added that until now the exact cause of the fire was still under investigation.

"For the source of the fire, we are still investigating. Currently, the location has been installed with a police line for the purpose of further investigation," he concluded.
