The Case File of the Fatal Train Collision Caused by a Taxi is Complete, the Suspect will be Immediately Tried
JAKARTA - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) said that the case file for the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station at the end of April had been completed.
The development of the investigation was conveyed by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Kombes Mariochristy P. S. Siregar, in a working meeting and a hearing held by Commission V of the DPR, Thursday, May 21.
"Currently the file is complete ... And soon, yes, we have sent the file to the prosecutor. Because this is a demand under five years. So, the trial will be held immediately at the Bekasi City District Court," said Mario.
He explained that the investigation was carried out by the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the Bekasi City Metro Police. Meanwhile, the National Police's Korlantas accompanied the investigation and helped process the crime scene (TKP).
According to him, there were two events related to this case, namely an accident between an electric train (KRL) and an online taxi at a crossing around East Bekasi Station and an accident between a KRL and a long-distance train.
In the investigation, he added, the police had examined a number of witnesses, including online taxi drivers, KRL drivers, train crossing gate guards, to representatives of the sole agent of the taxi vehicle brand.
However, Mario did not elaborate further on the suspects in the case.
The accident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek Train (now KA Anggrek) and the Commuter Train at Bekasi Timur Station occurred on Monday (27/4) evening. Before the incident, there was a temper between the Commuter Train and an online taxi that stopped in the middle of the track at a crossing near the station.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said 124 people were victims in the incident. Of that number, 16 people were declared dead, while 103 victims were allowed to go home after being treated at the hospital.
"Five victims are still being treated," said Dudy, who was also present at the meeting.
