Partner with BRIN, SIG Strengthen Research to Create Sustainable Products and Services

JAKARTA - The need for building materials and the responsibility to realize sustainable development, encourages PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) to continue to innovate by presenting applicable product and service solutions based on research. This initiative is realized through collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in research, invention, and innovation cooperation in the field of cement and its derivatives industries.

The cooperation between SIG and BRIN was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the President Director of SIG, Indrieffouny Indra and Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization of BRIN, R. Hendrian, which was carried out in the series of events "BRIN Goes To Industry 4" at Building B.J. Habibie, BRIN Headquarters, Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 19.

Deputy Head of BRIN, Amarulla Octavian, said that "BRIN Goes To Industry" serves as a communication platform for stakeholders, both in the industrial world, institutions, regulators, and the community, to exchange information about research and innovation products. In this way, it is hoped that the quality of research and innovation can be improved and have a positive impact.

"BRIN Goes To Industry is the implementation of the policy direction and strategy of the 2025-2029 RPJMN, where BRIN contributes to national development priorities through strengthening research and innovation, and is oriented towards harmony between humans, the environment, nature and culture, and encourages an inclusive and tolerant social life," said Amarulla Octavian.

Similarly, SIG's President Director, Indrieffouny Indra, said that research is the key to presenting superior and sustainable building material products to answer the challenges and needs in the increasingly developing construction sector. Therefore, SIG collaborates with various relevant parties, including BRIN, to strengthen research and innovation in the field of cement and its derivative products.

The scope of cooperation between SIG and BRIN includes research activities to create innovative cement products and derivatives that are applicable, joint use of facilities and infrastructure in accordance with research activities, advocacy of policies to implement sustainable development, provide product and service solutions that support national economic recovery and response to aspects of climate change, and improve human resource competence.

"Research cooperation with BRIN is a strategic step to present various quality, quality, and environmentally friendly building material solutions. This step is also in line with SIG's transformation strategy to optimize derivative products of cement and the portfolio that is currently being focused on by the Company," said Indrieffouny Indra.

Indrieffouny Indra explained that the signing of this memorandum of understanding with BRIN was an extension of the memorandum of understanding that had been carried out in July 2023. In the previous period, SIG and BRIN have conducted a number of research, including the development of High Performance Concrete with Semen Hidraulis; Self Healing Concrete for Prevention and Repair of Concrete Cracks; Chemical Additives for Cement and Concrete; and the development of Green Concrete for Coastal and Marine Infrastructure.

"Having a diverse portfolio of products further strengthens SIG's position as the largest building materials solution provider in Indonesia. SIG is committed to continue contributing to development in Indonesia through sustainable solutions and innovations that add value for all stakeholders," said Indrieffouny Indra.
