President Prabowo said the reason for the judges' salaries to increase by 280 percent was so that they could not be bribed.

Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto gave the reason why he agreed to increase judges' salaries by 280 percent. According to President Prabowo, this step was taken so that the judiciary would not easily be infiltrated by bribery and injustice.

This was conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto when giving a speech at the Attorney General's Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 13. In fact, according to President Prabowo, he proposed a 300 percent increase in judges' salaries. However, the proposal was corrected by the Minister of Finance.

President Prabowo admitted that he had received a report from the Chief Justice that the income of Indonesian judges was now even higher than that of Malaysia and Singapore for certain levels. However, for Prabowo, the crux of the matter is not about prestige, but strengthening the integrity of the judiciary.

President Prabowo said judges must be respected, properly selected, and given a decent income so that they are not easily bribed. In addition to salaries, President Prabowo also ordered the construction of a residence for judges.

He admitted that he only knew that many judges only received a house rent of around IDR 1.5 million per month, even though they often changed assignments to various areas.

President Prabowo said the government would also seek funds to increase the income of clerks and other court employees.
